A lightweight (arguably) text formatting tool mostly used as an outliner at its core.
Org mode has a variety of features allowing it to be flexibly used for note-taking and even in research.

- Task management with TODO, [[id:3a57fe56-9e6d-41e4-a76f-5ffdeb5840a2][Org mode timestamps]], and the agenda view.

Unfortunately, a lot of the famous powers of the format is tied with [[id:ce6ab58e-b295-4fdb-8af7-fc89c63ec208][GNU Emacs]].
While there is an ecosystem flourishing outside of the text editor (e.g., [[https://github.com/niklasfasching/go-org][go-org]], [[https://github.com/orgapp/orgajs][orgajs]], [[https://pandoc.org/org.html][Org mode support in Pandoc]]), the plugins inside of Emacs simply cannot be ignored.
