Most of the work is done from smaller amount of effort
-
a principle applicable in many places:
- learning 20% of a skill is enough to get started e.g., illustration, programming, music production
- most of the contributions in an open-source project is usually done by a small group
- this is why it is important to Start small and improve later
- this is why some may prefer simpler tools and methods because a lot of what they want is already done
-
getting the final 20% would require more effort and when done incorrectly, you could go into some trouble
- bikeshedding
- in learning, you could be overlearning
- in development, you could optimize to the point of
- you may have done configuring your editor in a matter of days reaching the ideal workflow
- this is also a good solution for not indulging into perfectionism as Unnecessary optimizations cripple progress
